HOPE 5An Afternoon of Classical Ballet
The “Hope” annual dance concerts began in the fall of 2008as members of the Phantom cast came up with the ideaof staging a benefit--donating their time and talent--to support Family Promise of Las Vegas.Family Promise is a non-profit organization that assistshomeless families in the Las Vegas valleyto achieve lasting independenceby mobilizing the communityto provide safe shelter, meals, and support services for them.
Now in its 5th year of Hope,part of the proceeds from this performance will go tothe College of Southern Nevada's Performing Arts Center.The Performing Arts Center’s share of proceeds will go to its“Friends of the Horn Theatre” and be used to enhance productionsand provide access to the arts for underserved populations in our community.
The show itself will feature a collection of ballet presentationsand musical numbers featuring performers and musicians fromPhantom as well as dancers from Nevada Ballet Theatreand various Las Vegas productions.

The composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheimis the most important artist to workin the American musical theater over the past half-century.He has not only collaborated on more than a dozen landmark showsand written countless standard songsbut has also been the single most influential forcein bringing the Broadway musical into the modern age.During the live, unscripted conversation, Sondheim and guest hostwill reminisce about Stephen Sondheim’s careerincluding his collaborations withLeonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins and Tim Burton;predecessors, including his mentor Oscar Hammerstein II;the state of American musical theater; the differences between film and theater;and, in a very personal series of reflections, his own creative process,speaking specifically on works ranging fromhis early shows Gypsy and West Side Storyto such later classics as Company, Follies and Sweeney Todd.Punctuating their conversation will be performances byChristine Ebersole and Brian Stokes Mitchell.It is an evening conversation which offersa most personal and engaging view of Sondheim and his life in the theater.
