SUMMER CAMP! THE MUSICAL

Table 8 Productions presents the World Premiere of the raunchy, rockin’ comedy
Summer Camp! The Musical
Book by Troy Heard, Music by Angela Chan, Lyrics by Heard and Chan.
Opening Night: Friday, August 10, 2012Plays at 8pm Fridays through Sundays through August 26
The Onyx Theatre in Commercial Center 953 E. Sahara Ave. #16
Directed by Heard with musical direction by Chan.

It’s Summer 1982: Reagan’s in the White House, the Russians are building the bomb, and rustic Camp Tigglebitties is a hormonal hotbed where ubernerds Nolan and Dwight vow to lose their virginity to the gorgeous Lacey St. Clair...at the possible expense of their friendship. Serious questions are raised: can Dwight enlist help from Obi-Wan? Who will win the Kotex 500? And what IS The Mook?

Summer Camp! is a musical homage to the classic genre of the early 1980s cinema popularly known as the Teen Sex Comedy,” says Heard, who was selected Best Director of 2011 by NPR’s Desert Companion magazine. “I remember staying up late many Saturday nights to watch Porky’s, Meatballs and Revenge of the Nerds on HBO. And like any red-blooded, prepubescent male I always thought there was way too much story between the shower scenes. This is my chance to fix that...while amping the awesomeness by adding musical numbers in different 80s rock-and-roll styles.”

“We’ve also jumped on the audience interaction bandwagon with this one,” Heard says. “There’s a splash zone, of course, but since this is a sex comedy and not a horror spoof like Evil Dead, Summer Camp! is definitely adults only!”

Tickets are $15.00 and are available at the door and on www.onyxtheatre.com.

GOD LIVES IN GLASS - Benefit Concert

The Nevada Conservatory Theatre Presents:
God Lives in GlassReflections of God as seen through the eyes of children
August 25 and 26 at 2pmUNLV Judy Bailey Theatre
Tickets: $25

"A powerful and astonishing work...will blow you away...Keith Thompson's score is a revelation...provocative, original, and - quite simply - amazing."

Featuring performers from The Lion King, Love, Jersey Boys, "O", Phantom - The Las Vegas Spectacular, Menopause The Musical, Vegas! the Show, Surf the Musical, and the UNLV Music and Theatre Departments.
The events of September 11th, 2001 inspired the writing and the original production of "God Lives in Glass" as a way of reaching across racial, cultural and religious boundaries to promote global unity acceptance of cultural diversity.

The musical is based on a book by the same title, written by the head of Drama Therapy at New York University, Dr. Robert J. Landy, Ph.D. The book contains drawings, stories, and reflections about God that were created and shared by children from all around the world, from different cultures, races, and religions. The insights and visions of these young spiritual thinkers are funny, moving, entertaining, and often enlightening.

Shortly after the events of 9/11, Dr. Landy collaborated with Composer Keith Thompson (conductor of "Jersey Boys" in Las Vegas) and Director/co-conceiver Greg Ganakas to bring musical and theatrical life to the book as a way of promoting cultural and spiritual healing and understanding.

Contrary to what the title suggests, "God Lives in Glass" is not a religious musical, or a piece of children's theatre, even though it does take a whimsical look at religion and different ideas about who or what God might be as seen through the eyes of young people from all over the planet. The Musical never attempts to instruct or promote any ideology or doctrine. It merely holds up the "glass" as a mirror that allows us a reflection of ourselves, and as a window that lets us view the world with wonder, humor, and imagination; as seen through the eyes of a child.

Atlas Theatre, in conjunction with The Box Office (located in the famed Arts District downtown), is proud to announce the upcoming
Las Vegas premiere of Patrick Marber’s
CLOSER

Sad, savvy, and often funny, CLOSER casts a steely, unblinking gaze at the world of relationships and lets you come to your own conclusions. Four lives intertwine over the course of four and a half years in this densely plotted, stinging look at modern love and betrayal, in which this quartet struggle to find intimacy but can't seem to get closer.
Variety called the play:"Brilliant and bracingly adult, bruising and beautiful, shatteringly funny and devastatingly sad. It cuts like broken glass…full of bitter, intelligent, unvarnished truth.
Newsweek called it:“A powerful, darkly funny play about the cosmic collision between the sun of love and the comet of desire."
And NY Magazine said:"CLOSER does not merely hold your attention; it burrows into you."
CLOSER features Ryan Remark, Jessica Afton, Alex Olson, Breon Jenay, and is directed by Chris Mayse
Performance Dates are: Friday, August 31st (8pm), Saturday, September 1st (8pm), Thursday, September 6th (8pm), Sunday, September 9th (4pm),  Monday, September 10th (8pm- Industry Night),

Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One — born with emerald-green skin — is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these unlikely friends become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for the most spellbinding new musical in years. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy® and three Tony Awards®, Wicked is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times), and “a cultural phenomenon” (Variety).

Cockroach Theatre announced that they have passed inspection in their new home at the Art Square Theatre (1025 1st St). Exciting things are happening in Downtown Las Vegas and this promises to be a rich part of that. Stay tuned in to hear more as things progress for them.
Cockroach Theatre

Cockroach Theatre was founded in 2002 out of the need and desire to create powerful, evocative theatre. The original concept was to produce "new and neglected" works- either by emerging playwrights, or simply to locate and produce great plays that have gone unnoticed. Cockroach Theatre was formed. Cockroach Theatre exists to satisfy a need for defiant theatre for both artists and audiences.

Defiant (adj) "boldly resisting an opposing force"- Cockroach Theatre has made it's mission to produce this breed of theatre in the form of new and exciting works. We are resisting the idea that theatre is a stagnant and tired art form, having faith that the performance art of theatre continues to survive because of the ability to reinvent itself through the ages. People who appreciate theatre will appreciate a Cockroach Theatre Production.

Season begins on October 26, 2012.

Mineola Twins
by Paula Vogel
directed by Joe Hynes
A comedy in six scenes, four dreams and seven wigs. Myrna and Myra, almost identical twins (played by the one actress), battle each other through the Eisenhower, Nixon and Reagan/Bush years over virginity, Vietnam and Family Values. [October 26–November 18]

Love Song
by John Kolvenbach
directed by Erik Amblad
Beane is an exile from life—an oddball. His well-meaning sister, Joan, and brother-in-law, Harry, try and make time for him in their busy lives, but no one can get through. Following a burglary on Beane's apartment, Joan is baffled to find her brother blissfully happy and tries to unravel the story behind his mysterious new love, Molly. Funny, enchanting and wonderfully touching, John Kolvenbach's offbeat comedy is a rhapsody to the power of love in all its forms. [December 7–December 23]

Gruesome Playground Injuries
by Rajiv Joseph
directed by Levi Fackrell
Over the course of 30 years, the lives of Kayleen and Doug intersect at the most bizarre intervals, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that keep drawing them together. [January 26–February 17]

You May Go Now
by Bekah Brunsetter
Dottie has trained young Betty to be the perfect 1950s housewife; to cook the perfect pot roast, to bake a gorgeous seven-layer cake, to remove any stain. And tonight, Betty’s 18th birthday, it is time for Betty to go out into the world. Only Dottie has failed to mention that the year is 2007, that the world is a vast and complex place, and that there is a reason she cannot abide being called 'Mother'. [March 15 – April 7]

Death of a Salesman
by Arthur Miller
directed by Troy Heard
A small parable about a large idea: the promise and death of the American Dream. A play that most people only know from a classroom textbook, "Death of a Salesman" is a tale that resonates as loud today as when it premiered in 1949. [April 26–May 19]

As we settle into our new home downtown and embrace our neighbors new and old, we embrace our roots with this season: a commitment to new and to neglected works. We face our future exploring both very new plays and also very new perspectives on plays forgotten.

Participants will learn musical selections from the show, work on character development, perform original choreography, as well as have a TalkBack with the cast and learn what it's like to work on one of the biggest musicals in Broadway history!

Ages 10 and up only.

We encourage all particpants to wear their greenest clothing on the day of the workshop; any Wicked paraphernalia is absolutely appropriate! Participants will also have the opportunity to perform what they have learned for family and friends later in the afternoon.

Cockroach Theatre Announces Season

2012-2013 Season of Plays and the all new @Art Square Theatre
